While I sort out release of the Live album, “Live at Falkirk Folk Club”, here is a video playlist of some of what will be included, thanks to the wonderful Charlie Tibbles for the sound and video and everything else he did that night and beyond. These kind of nights are the essence of live entertainment. They were the past, but I think they are going to be the future!
Watch the playlist HERE
and here’s a little video of “Ale’ Marino” from the night
Double bass player. Story-swinger. Husband. Daddy. Nice guy. Optimist. Eccentric, but lovely with it, hopefully.
It’s the end of a decade, which means very little, as life will go on, unless you are a 2019 calendar. Going forward, I shall continue to spread my creativity into many little plant pots: my own “story-swinging”, writing, playing jazz, session work, working with schools and communities, etc... But please let me remember this decade with a little video of the kind of gig that has given me the most joy in this dwindling period... Here is an example of my musical brother Owen Nicholson and myself, having a laugh with a small room full of lovely people at Falkirk Folk Club. To me, this is what gigs are all about. We hadn’t prepared this song. We hadn’t rehearsed the parts of any song. We practice our instruments, so we ARE prepared to have just as much fun on the gig as the audience has, because for the most part, what comes out of our fingers (and sometimes my mouth) is new to us too! Of course this is absolutely not the way music is going nowadays. I for one don’t give a fungus about the way it’s going. The new year for Owen and I shall start with the release of a live album from this Falkirk Folk Club gig, just to keep the nonsense alive (with huge thanks to Charlie Tibbles for recording and videoing the gig purely out of the goodness of his own heart: a TRUE gem of a person!).. HAPPY NEW DECADE!
This is my jazzy story Rudy, made into a short film by the wonderful people of Visible Fictions and starting Rick Conte as Rudy (and me as the double bass player in the back).
Very honoured to be the feature of this episode of Contrabass Conversations, which is the “word” for the worldwide community of double basses players of all denominations.

in 2019 I have released 3 albums and 3 singles....it’s only September, but for this year I shall stop here! Why?
Because on 14th September 2019 I am releasing my monologue with double bass “Robertografia”. It’s the result of many months of conversations with and learning from my friend, musical idol and mentor Danny’s thompson. It’s honest music paired with honest words, straight from the heart. I’m releasing it on what would have been the birthday of my adored dad Marino Cassani, and I hope that like him, this work is true, unique, genuine, funny and mad as a hatter. Ciao.
Sometimes, you just need to hear something silly! Rock-a-silly, Swing-a-silly, silly billy, whatever... Roberto Cassani and the Tickety2 (Dave Clelland on drums and Owen Nicholson on guitar) had the job done in 2 short years 2014 and 2015.
Many festivals, gigs, radio, and 2 albums were done at lightning speed in those 2 short years, but despite the physical copies of the albums being available on this site (before they sell out), and a few videos having appeared on YouTube, no trace of Tickety was left for the streaming world....until now!
The best of Roberto Cassani & the Tickety2 2014-2015 is out Tuesday 20th august 2019 on every streaming platform and of course to download on this site. Put it in your music collection because soon, probably very soon, you’re gonna need it! Remember to be silly! Ciao.
it’s gonna be 1st August. This is the wonderful cover, an original painting made just for me by the wonderfully talented artist from my home town of Rivolta d’Adda, Antonia Provenzi. Ciao.
It’s 2019! I know it’s been 2019 for 3 months already but I’ve been busy. I’ve had a few double bass gigs everywhere from jazz to blues to folk to goodness-knows-what-key-we-are-in...
then in February I was in Montreal playing at Folk Alliance as an invited Official Artist, which was fun.
this month I finished my year-long collaboration with my musical (and beyond) mentor Danny Thompson. I have a batch of songs from the heart and I’m going to put them out, so stay tuned.
How do you do that? Join the mailing list! It’s imperative (well, advisable...well, it would really make me pleased, thank you). Lotsa love. Ciao e grazie.
