For one night only, I’m back with my friend Owen Nicholson because we had a distinct feeling that mischief was in short supply within music…so we chose Kirkcaldy’s famed Polish Club (hey!), one of our all time favourite venue, to remind ourselves (and hopefully quite a few other people) just how much of a giggle playing music can be…

We are going to play the album “Ansema we stand” with the people who helped me make it: John Somerville, Ross Ainslie, Steve Fivey, Anna Massie and Greg Lawson

This will be a special one-off performance with Ross Ainslie (pipes and whistles), Fraser Campbell (saxophone) and Jon Mackenzie (guitar)…and myself on double bass and vocals. We will have fun playing with space and improvisation on some compositions written by myself and Fraser.

Roberto Cassani’s Ansema is a dream band for me, featuring the genius musical talents of Ross Ainslie (pipes and whistles), Anna Massie (guitar), John Somerville (accordion), Greg Lawson (violin) and Stevie Fivey (drums), we will play my album “Ansema We Stand” in full in a wonderful room for the best world music winter festival in the world: Celtic Connections. Opening the show will be the fantastic Debra Salem, with her show “In a sma room”.

Due to Covid, this concert will be rescheduled for the spring.

The legendary Poozies have helped revolutionise folk music. They’ve been around the world aplenty and now they are back. I’m very honoured to be stepping out to open for them, and have a lovely practice run of some new songs ahead of the imminent new album.
